Tulipa lanata
.
Family: Liliaceae (Leliefamilie)
Distribution: Central Asia
Comments: In 1883, botanist Albert Regel came across this species of tulip in the Pamir Mountains in Tajikistan. His father Edward described the tulip a year later as Tulipa alata, meaning hairy tulip. This refers to the inside of the bulb's skin. It is not entirely certain whether Albert Regel was the first to collect this bulb. Around 1900, there were several plant collectors actively collecting tulips and perhaps another was actually earlier.
