Tulipa praestans 'Fusilier'
.
Family: Liliaceae (Leliefamilie)
Distribution: Central Asia
Comments: Many tulip varieties come from the Pamir Mountains in Asia. So does Tulipa praestans 'Fusilier'. It is an exuberant bloomer that can produce as many as 5 flowers per bulb. Hence the species name praestans, which means something like 'exuberant' or 'giving a lot'. The cultivar name 'Fusilier' possibly refers to the red uniform of this type of soldier.
