Tulipa (Double Late Group) 'Uncle Tom'
.
Family: Liliaceae (Leliefamilie)
Distribution: Horticulture
Comments: Double-flowered tulips have much fuller flowers than is natural for tulips. Normally, the flower head of tulips and other plants in the lily family consists of six petals, but in these cultivars it is at least double that number. This almost gives these full tulips a peony-like appearance. However, if you look inside the flower, you can easily see the difference. Peonies have many more and different looking stamens than tulips.
