Tulipa (Rembrandt Group) 'Black and White'

Tulipa (Rembrandt Group) 'Black and White'
.
Family: Liliaceae (Leliefamilie)
Distribution: Horticulture
Comments: Broken or flamed tulips, such as this "Black and White" cultivar, belong to the Rembrandt tulips. This although Rembrandt himself painted only a single (indeed broken) tulip (seen in Saskia as Flora, 1634 and 1635). Previously, at the time of the tulip mania, the breaking was caused by the mosaic virus. Therefore, this trait was not hereditary. In today's Rembrandt tulips, the refraction is caused by mutations, a lot less dangerous.
