Taxon

Tulipa montana

Tulipa montana
.
Family: Liliaceae (Leliefamilie)
Synonym: Tulipa wilsoniana
Distribution: S Turkmenistan, Iran
Comments: The small mountain tulip from Iran and Turkmenistan was first described in 1826 in the English "The Botanical Register" by botanist John Lindley. In the Bible, the Rose of Sharon is mentioned. Scholars disagree on which plant is meant but the bright red Tulipa montana is a good candidate.
