Tulipa turkestanica - Turkestan tulip
.
Common name: Turkestan tulip
Family: Liliaceae (Leliefamilie)
Distribution: C Asia to NW China
Comments: Tulipa turkestanica is, of course, from Turkestan, a historic region in Central Asia, which existed at the time this species was described. This somewhat wilder-looking tulip has white flowers with a yellow spot in the centre. The underside of the petal has pink stripes, providing a nice contrast to the grey to bright green leaves. Unlike most other tulips, this species can have as many as 5 to 9 flowers per inflorescence.
