Between 1686 and 1709 Huydecoper and Commelin commisioned 420 watercolours of plants from De Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, produced by Jan and Maria Moninckx. Waarschijnlijk fungeerde deze rijke collectie met 'afteekeningen' als een kolossaal kruidboek. Many of the depicted species are still present in De Hortus today. This route takes you to living plants of the species that would have been the models for the watercolours of Moninckx's Atlas.
